JAPANESE

JARC as the Motorcycle Recycling Coordinator

Although motorcycles are not governed by the Automobile Recycling Law, Japanese motorcycle makers in concert with importers have operated their motorcycle recycling system since October 2004 on a voluntary basis.

Under this system, the motorcycle makers collectively recycle the end of life motorcycles brought to dealers and certified receiving centers. The users need not pay a separate recycling fee as the fee was included in the sale prices of the motorcycles they bought.

For stable operation of the motorcycle recycling system, JARC is commissioned by motorcycle makers and importers to serve as secretariat and information center for this nationwide recycling scheme.
